Grand Rapids’ shining gem, and one of America’s “Best Old House Neighborhoods” (as named by This Old House), opens its historic doors once again for the 54th Annual Heritage Hill Weekend Tour of Homes. Ticket-holders are welcomed into six fascinating historically preserved homes and one stunning neighborhood landmark that’s straight out of a fairy tale.
Attendees will experience:
- A stately Craftsman Style home so impeccably maintained and filled with Victorian antiques, turn-of-the-20th-century inventions and hand-printed custom-made wallpaper that ticket-holders will feel both like they’ve stepped back in time and into a lavish museum.
- A cozy Colonial Revival home that invites you onto its broad porch and into its gold-leaf fireplace alcove.
- An American Foursquare whose large windows bathe in warm light handsome woodwork and the homeowners’ art collection.
- A Georgian Revival home restored from four apartments back into elegance with a two-story soaring, balconied entry hall.
- A Craftsman Style home on one of Heritage Hill’s most beautiful avenues, filled with extraordinary screen-printed wallpaper, hand-painted tile from the Netherlands, and oak furniture made by the original homeowner’s company.
- A charming Foursquare lovingly decorated by a young family, whose front door opens onto a stunning open stairway.
- And more!
To keep refreshed while strolling from home-to-home along our beautiful tree-lined streets, attendees can enjoy a variety of food and drink from local food truck venders at Mooney Park (314 Logan Street SE) and at one of the featured homes.

Since 1969, the annual Heritage Hill Weekend Tour of Homes welcomes you to our historic Heritage Hill neighborhood, one of the country’s largest urban historic districts recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. More than 1,300 homes stand within the boundaries of Heritage Hill and date from 1843. Nearly every style of American architecture, from Greek Revival to Prairie, is represented in the district. At the turn of the century, this was the city’s most prestigious residential area. Today the neighborhood is an array of lifestyles and passions. Professionals, artisans, students, homeowners and renters share this great place we call home.
Each year, a different line-up of 6-7 private homes and 1-2 historic buildings are open; each with a unique story. During Tour, guides stationed at each house will share information and highlight special features. An array of architecture, decorating styles and urban gardens await you.
Home Tour is the largest fundraiser of the Heritage Hill Association. It is also the biggest promotional effort of our neighborhood and a showcase for the benefits of historic preservation. Over 100 volunteers contribute to make the weekend a success. All proceeds go right back into programs for the Heritage Hill neighborhood.
