Heritage Hill Dragonflies Take Flight Across the Neighborhood
Something magical is coming to the streets of Heritage Hill.
In preparation for ArtPrize, the Heritage Hill Association is launching an exciting new community-wide art installation: Heritage Hill Dragonflies, a collaborative project that will transform the neighborhood into a stunning outdoor gallery filled with hundreds of individually designed dragonflies. The concept is simple, creative, and deeply rooted in community participation. Neighbors, artists, families, businesses, and community members are invited to purchase a dragonfly form through the Heritage Hill Association and transform it into a unique work of art.
Participants are encouraged to decorate their dragonflies however they choose – no two dragonflies will be alike. Once completed, the dragonflies will be displayed throughout the Historic District on porches, front lawns, gardens, fences, and other public-facing spaces, creating a breathtaking visual experience for visitors exploring Heritage Hill during ArtPrize. While every dragonfly will be unique, together they will form one unified installation – a collective expression of creativity, transformation, and community connection.
Why Dragonflies?
The dragonfly was chosen intentionally for its rich symbolism and its ties to the Victorian era, the period when many of Heritage Hill’s historic homes were built.
During the late 1800s, dragonflies appeared frequently in decorative arts, jewelry, stained glass, textiles, and architectural details. They were admired for their delicate beauty and became symbols of transformation, light, adaptability, and self-realization.
Today, dragonflies continue to represent resilience, change, hope, and the beauty of embracing new possibilities. These themes reflect both the enduring character of Heritage Hill and the evolving story of the neighborhood itself.
Design Your Dragonfly
Once forms are released, participants will be able to reserve their dragonfly and begin creating their designs. Whether you are an experienced artist, a family looking for a creative project, a business seeking a unique way to participate in ArtPrize, or a resident who simply wants to be part of something special, everyone is encouraged to join.
Design ideas are endless:
