About the HHA Community Art Project
Art moves us and calls us into unique spaces. In 2021, the HHA created a community art project to help activate public spaces after spray paint graffiti started showing up on city-owned traffic boxes. We learned that spray paint should never be used on a traffic control cabinet as it can cause damage to the internal components and cause the traffic light to malfunction. A call went out in the HHA neighborhood newsletter to gather anyone interested in participating to join a temporary art committee. The group decided on a theme of gardens and architecture as those themes highlight some of the most visible characteristics of Heritage Hill. All of the artists that offered to paint murals live either in Heritage Hill or very close in a bordering neighborhood. Five boxes are located along College Avenue (at Lyon, Fountain, Fulton, Cherry and Wealthy) and two are located along Madison Avenue (at Wealthy and Cherry). The artwork is featured on our social media: Facebook (@heritagehill) & IG (@heritagehillassociation).
