Architectural Walking Tour Part IV, Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021 6:00 pm
Wednesday, June 23rd at 6:00 p.m., Heritage Hill Architectural Tour. (featuring different homes than the Heritage Hill Association History tour in October, 2020)
Heritage Hill Architecture Walking Tour – Part IV – with Tour Guide Caroline Cook of Grand Rapids Running Tours
This walking tour will be a continuation of earlier Heritage Hill Architectural Tours. In this 4th installment, we will be exploring the histories of houses on Logan, Morris and Madison.
In the 1960s, urban renewal efforts in downtown Grand Rapids called for demolishing up to 75% of the Victorian “homes on the hill” neighborhood, the city’s oldest residential district. Resident protests and impassioned leadership led to the organization of the Heritage Hill Association in 1968. The Association celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2018. This tour traverses a section of the stunning, tree-lined residential streets as your guide narrates bits of history, highlights significant architecture stories that commemorate the success of Heritage Hill’s special neighborhood association.
Expect the tour to last 75-90 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes and dress to be outside. Covid safe practices will be in place; please wear a mask. Walking tour will occur rain or shine. Tickets are $15; please find the link below:
